Marocco with Sabir... an experience that must be lived!

What can we say? How long have we been in Marocco? 21, 22, 23 days, but it seems, seems a lot of time.

After a long rigmarole between the Mali and Mauritania embassies in Rabat, Moroccan capital, we took the cheapest buses (avoiding carefully the nice-looking and comfortable ones) and therefore awful and after two changes and 5 hours travelling, we arrived at Zouia, village in the centre of Morocco, where Sabir was waiting for us, a Moroccan friend of mine who has been living at Sambo for several years…

…and from here on the true journey began, because as you know, you cannot really know a place if you do not live it with someone who was born and lives there… It would be impossible to describe everything, I can only say that people have a rare helpfulness and kindness, we ate excellent food cooked by Sabir’s wife and his many sisters (we have not understood how much they are yet…) and I am talking about Cuscus at lunch and Tashina (Is it written like this?! dunno) at supper. We were around the village, met loads of people and discovered a really good place, a town unknown to great tourism, and to the little one… but not to us!

But above all we were so lucky to participate in a rather characteristic Moroccan pre-evening with 8 nicest men gathered around a fire inside a stable, men who were enjoying a bit of amuse, rest and healthy (so so!) transgression… Luca and I were not able to understand a word among them, but smiles, will and fantasy made us all best friends. But time goes by and the earth calls, so we said goodbye, tried to resist to the most various offers of hospitality et cetera and tomorrow (I am writing this evening on Saturday 23rd...) would be supposed to leave this oasis where time seems to have stopped and take the first coach to Marrakesh! I am scared!

Ah, for those who looked at the pictures… they will maybe notice that at the threshold of the sixth day of travelling neither me nor Luca changed… or washed ourselves, but in our defence it must be said that here showers do not exist!!

Goodnight.
